Join us for a special Reiki + Restore class @banyansoul ✨

Reiki is a Japanese technique to promote stress reduction and relaxation, activating the parasympathetic nervous system (rest & digest system) and balancing the nervous system through deep rest. It can be facilitated through both hands on and off the body by a practitioner.

Restorative yoga poses will be held for an extended period of time, combined with the Reiki energy to offer a chakra balancing from head to toe and a deeply relaxing experience. Props such as bolsters, blankets, straps, and blocks are used to support the body to further allow for further dropping into postures. Reiki will be offered to each participant if they so choose (hands-off or on, you’re choice!).

Do you have a daily meditation practice or do you find it difficult to stick to it? I was always hit or miss…if I had time in the morning to sit I would do it otherwise I told myself I was just too busy and maybe later 😬 What has been a game changer is having a “cue” so it becomes natural and part of my morning routine. As soon as I get up, after I’ve done my self Reiki practice in bed, I light a candle - my green aventurine candle holder from @thesaltyblossom 💚and read the daily passage from this book which always has a beautiful message 🙏❤️ Then I set my timer for 5 minutes and sit and breathe. If I have more time I’ll set it for longer, sometimes 20 mins, or more. But 5 minutes is the minimum amount I can commit to, even if I have a lot on my schedule that day 🗓️

This practice is a PRACTICE. It’s not perfect and some mornings I don’t feel like it. But I keep showing up and over time it’s becoming like anything else I do automatically, like drinking coffee and brushing my teeth. I always feel better, more grounded, more peaceful 🕊️ Every now and then I get a glimpse of that divine source and connection with something beyond the physical realm 💫 💕 What has helped you stick to a practice?

BREATHE 💨 My #oneword intention for 2024 ✨ This word actually chose me this year. I finished a four-week breathwork course with @elhappycoach at @spiritwell.sensorylounge in December and the next week I was in the emergency room with a broken wrist and awaiting surgery on Christmas Eve 😳 Thankfully I had the breathwork tools from @elhappycoach and of course my self Reiki practice to soothe me through the excruciating pain, the shock and grief over the experience 🫶🏻

I fully believe in the law of attraction...our thoughts and emotions carry a vibration and our experiences and current reality are a direct reflection of this. I don’t fully understand why I had to endure so much pain this year but I do know that it has made me stronger and given me a new appreciation of the resources and tools I have to help heal myself and others going through painful experiences. I still have core wounds and limiting beliefs to heal and have been working through them while I’ve been forced to sit still. And just breathe🧘🏻‍♀️

What a year, the universe really has a wicked sense of humor at times 🤪 It seems many lightworkers and healers I’ve spoken with are being called to level ⬆️ with facing hard challenges over this past year! Still so grateful for all the lessons, ups and downs, challenges and joys that 2023 provided. And excited as always for a new new year full of possibilities, adventures and hope. May we all be safe, happy, healthy and live with ease in 2024 💕🥰

I am still processing all the amazing experiences this past week at a yoga retreat with @maharetreats in Costa Rica 💗 From the first night I set the intention to “Just be and return to Me.” I found myself with a fractured ankle on day 2, so I suppose the universe was taking this too literally ❤️‍🩹🤪 Instead of practicing yoga, hiking waterfalls and zip lining, I was forced to rest, meditate, read books and reflect. While it wasn’t the experience I had dreamed of and at times I was so frustrated all I could do was cry and ask “why me,” I knew deep down it was exactly what I needed. It was deeply healing being in this remote paradise in a Blue Zone on the Nicoya Peninsula 🙏 From the incredibly nourishing and delicious vegetarian food, the sounds and the aliveness of the jungle, and the powerful community of Goddesses brought together by @maharetreats it was all magical 💫🐒 And bonus I had my mom @draymondart and best friend by my side to help ease my pain and laugh/cry with. Here’s to living an adventurous, wild life filled with growth, learning, healing, love and freedom ✌🏻

My Reiki practice has supported me through some of life’s toughest times over the last few years 💞 It has given me comfort while I’ve cried and grieved over the loss of my Dad 💔 Reiki has helped me with physical pain, when I couldn’t get out of bed from excrutiating back pain and the only thing I could do was practice self-Reiki and breathe. It has offered me peace of mind when I’ve made tough decisions, like leaving Charleston for FL to be near family. It’s offered me grace and self love even when I’m at lowest. It has helped me go within to listen to the stillness of my heart and trust my intuition ❤️ It continues to amaze me every day and I don’t know where I would be without it 🤲

I couldn’t let March slip by without saying Happy 100 Years to REIKI 💕 🤲 It was March 1922 when our founder, Dr. Mikao Usui was “touched by the ether” after a 21 day fasting and meditation retreat on Mount Kurama in Japan. His enlightenment from this experience came through in the form of Reiki - an infinite, universal life force energy that flows through every living and non-living entity. He discovered that one is able to direct this energy towards healing all aspects of their lives, without depleting their own energy ✨

I’ve been reflecting on how this simple yet profound practice has changed my life 💫 To me, Reiki has been a journey of going within, of slowly pulling back layers and allowing the intelligent universal flow of energy to heal on all levels - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Mine is not always perfect, but I find the best way to cultivate a daily practice is to spend a few minutes doing self Reiki and meditation as soon as I wake up and contemplate all that I'm grateful for. I also love to journal, so I try to keep a gratitude 📔and ✍️ down just 3 things I'm grateful for each day. It can be super simple...I'm grateful for the roof over my head, the food on my plate, for the people who love me ✨ And once I start writing, I usually end up with pages of things I'm grateful for! This always shifts my mood from one of worry or anxiety to a state of calm and peace ☮️ Try practicing daily gratitude this month and notice how focusing on being thankful for the positive things in your life rather than the negative things shifts your mindset 😍

Heart Chakra 💚✨ our right to give and receive love 💕 To feel compassion, gratefulness, balance, forgiveness, connection. The ❤️chakra is the center of our chakra system, bridging the gap between our physical (lower chakras) and spiritual (upper chakras). When your heart chakra is open, you will feel at peace with yourself, be connected to your true essence, and will be able to feel and embrace gratitude easily all around you ✨ When it’s blocked you may experience excessive jealousy, codependency or being closed down and withdrawn.

This is such a great season to focus on opening your heart as we come into autumn and approach the holidays. The heart chakra is also connected to the thymus gland that produces hormones and regulates the immune system, so it’s important to keep this chakra healthy and balanced 🌟

My favorite 🧘🏻‍♀️ pose for opening the heart chakra is supported 🐠 pose (Matsyasana) – you can place a block or rolled up blanket between your shoulder blades while lying down. I will also place rose quartz on my heart when working to balance and open it, or just place my hands on my 💖 Focus your breath on your heart center, imagine a beautiful green light glowing here, and repeat these affirmations to support the heart opening.

Solar Plexus Chakra 💛 our right to act 💫 The solar plexus chakra is the place of our personal power, of ego and identity in the world, and feeling confident, responsible, and reliable 💛 Its element is 🔥 and is our center of digestion, both in the physical sense and the energetic sense. When this chakra is balanced we feel positive about ourselves, there is enjoyment and enthusiasm about life. We are not afraid to say NO to things that do not serve us 🙅🏻‍♀️

When this chakra is out of balance, physiologically we may experience digestion issues like stomach pain, heartburn, ulcers, or a loss of appetite. When I feel a blockage in the solar plexus, it’s often related to negative self doubts and an inability to move forward with RIGHT ACTION 💪If energy is deficient in the solar plexus, often it shows up as low self esteem. Not trusting in your instincts, of who you truly are. Setting boundaries to strengthen the solar plexus is important if deficient 💕

Sometimes the energy is excessive and this can show up as overly aggressive, dominating, controlling behavior. Think Type A personality gone wild 😂 Healing this excess energy can include more relaxation exercises like meditation and yoga. Since this is a masculine energy, tapping more into the feminine, softer side will also help restore balance 🧘🏻‍♀️

If you feel like your solar plexus needs some love, place your hands on your solar plexus as you repeat the below affirmation 3 times, breathing into it💛

Sacral Chakra - our right to FEEL 🧡 The second chakra is our center of sensation and feeling, emotion and pleasure, intimacy and connection, movement and change. Where the root chakra gives us that foundation and grounding energy, the sacral chakra connects us to our emotional flow and sexuality 💗 Often when I discover an imbalance in the sacral chakra, a client feels stuck, unable to release whatever feelings they have been burying for fear of feeling too much pain.

But...Emotions = energy in motion 🌀 When we repress or stifle emotions they literally have no where to go, causing imbalances in the body that often manifest in other ways. This robs us of feeling into our passions and desires and can ultimately lead to a feeling of numbness, and disconnection from the body. But if we can feel into those emotions, sit with them and consciously allow them to release, we can express ourselves creatively and enjoy intimacy, pleasure and passion! 🔥

If you feel blocked in your sacral energy, try moving the body in a completely intuitive free flowing way for a few minutes. Move with your breath and intuition, get out of your head and into your body as you flow💃🕺🏻

While moving, dancing or swaying say these mantras out loud (or to yourself if your fam or furry friends are watching 😆

Most of us are so disconnected from our bodies, living in a world of information overload and high stress. Our poor nervous system stays in the hyperarousal state, that fight or flight state, always on high alert, leading to anxiety and overwhelm 😩 We were not meant to stay in this sympathetic state for long, and we need practices that return us to the “rest and digest” or parasympathetic nervous system, and return our body back to balance ❤️

Restorative yoga, mindfulness and meditation are all great practices we can do on our own to help return to that state of homeostasis. I invite you to try this grounding practice for just a few minutes and see how you feel 💕

Sit on the floor (or outside if you can) and feel your sits bones grounding into the earth. Close your eyes and take some deep breaths, sighing out loud with each exhale - which vibrates the vagus nerve, the longest cranial nerve in the body, that activates our parasympathetic nervous system. With each exhale notice how you are feeling more grounded, allowing your hips and lower back to feel heavy.

With each breath, say these mantras out loud (or to yourself):

I am grounded

I am safe

I am supported

By Mother Earth 🌍

Spend as much time here and notice any sensations in your body, keeping your attention on your lower body and how it feels to be connecting to the Earth. Just a small practice you can do daily to get back into that rest and digest state and feel more grounded ⛰.

Pardon my non pedicured 🦶🦶 Just a lil reminder that legs-up-the-wall (Viparita Karani) pose is amazing for grounding and nourishing your nervous system 🧘🏻‍♀️ Not to mention increasing blood circulation in the body and relieving tension in your feet, legs and hips 💖 And the list of benefits goes on and on ✨ I love to place a blanket under my hips, dab some lavender oil on my temples and play my favorite relaxing playlists. Just 20 minutes feels like an hour of rest!

Note: this pose may need to be avoided if you have hypertension, glaucoma or a hernia, and some teachers say to avoid inversions all together when on your period. Otherwise happy relaxing 😌 .

This can be challenging to do when we are empaths, always wanting to give give give. I've realized time and again I am no good to anyone when I don't spend time each morning filling my own cup first. Before I do anything in the morning *even filling my coffee cup*😆 I try to spend a few minutes meditating, giving myself Reiki, and saying thank you to the Divine for this new day. I never imagined I would be moving into a new career in my 40's, but here I am! Those who know me best, know that I have had a very winding career path with lots of ups and downs, always in search of my true calling. My mom was constantly saying to me, "Lauren, life is a journey to be experienced, not a problem to be solved," and it has been my mantra throughout the years as I've tried to just trust in the process ❤️⁠

I left my first job in graphic design after graduating college to move to Encinitas, CA and truly find myself 🦋 While I lived there for 7 years, I was a waitress, a pre-school teachers assistant, a yoga teacher, worked at UCSD and then moved to corporate business development. Was feeling very unfulfilled at this point and went to school for acupuncture for a year, thought about going back to school a million times to become a therapist, and ultimately landed on a career in event planning for the last 10 years. It was never truly fulfilling me on a spiritual level, but I loved the challenges and travel it provided me. COVID forced me to leave that behind for good and also gave me the opportunity to explore massage therapy. And for that, I am grateful ⁠🙏💜

All I ever wanted was to help people 💝 I'm beyond excited to now be moving into a career where I get to work with people and be part of their healing journey. As we know, the mind and body are very much connected. Massage combined with Reiki can address mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional needs for a deeper healing. Hi, it’s been awhile 😍 I haven’t been on social media much at all in December while I focused on finishing massage school, passing my licensing exam (yay!) and finally spending much needed quality time with family over the holidays 💕🥰

Sitting in my favorite spot this morning reflecting on 2020 and all the things I’m grateful for and what I learned from this past year. It was a challenging year (to say the least!) for everyone but certainly revealed the most important things in life while other things faded away. Love, connection, learning, yoga, Reiki, nature, self care, and trust were the guiding lights for me this year amidst all of the chaos.

I’m grateful for all of the lessons from this past year, and excited for the infinite possibilities that 2021 holds 🙏🥰 Cheers to a new year of love, light, healing and abundance to all ☕️ .

Hi, I’m Lauren. A Reiki Master, Massage Therapist, Yoga Teacher and Animal Whisperer. As a sun and moon Taurus, a 9 Enneagram, and a Generator, my true gift lies in creating stillness and holding space for healing to happen with a grounded, compassionate, and lighthearted energy.
